COLLEGE INTRODUTION
Overview of the School of Artificial Intelligence of Shenzhen University
by Shenzhen University in response to the national artificial intelligence development strategy and to serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center. It is committed to creating an artificial intelligence talent training base and technological highland with Shenzhen University characteristics. The college was officially inaugurated on April 21, 2025. Turing Award winner John Edward Hopcroft, Shenzhen University Party Committee Secretary Li Qingquan, President Mao Junfa and nearly 20 academicians and representatives of government, enterprise and academia witnessed this historic moment.
With the development philosophy of "thick foundation, emphasis on intersection, and internationalization", the college builds a disciplinary ecosystem that integrates "X+AI" and "AI+X". Through an integrated undergraduate, master's and doctoral training system, it cultivates high-quality compound talents with interdisciplinary vision and future competitiveness. Under the guidance of policies such as the "New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan" and the "Artificial Intelligence Innovation Action Plan for Colleges and Universities", the college has become the strategic choice of Shenzhen University to shoulder the mission of becoming a scientific and technological power and the responsibility to assist the construction of "dual districts".
The college has a strong teaching staff, with 61 full-time teachers, of which 61.3% have senior professional titles and 93.4% have doctorates. It has formed an echelon structure with young and middle-aged teachers as the main body and a combination of old, middle-aged and young teachers. The teaching team includes 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Japanese Academy of Engineering, 5 national-level talents, 2 national young talents, as well as 3 Clarivate Analytics highly cited scientists and 3 IEEE Fellows, providing students with top academic guidance and industrial practice resources.
In terms of discipline construction, the college focuses on three core directions: basic theory of artificial intelligence, embodied intelligence and robotics, and artificial intelligence applications, and has established close cooperation with multiple national key laboratory platforms such as the National Key Laboratory of Radio Frequency Heterogeneous Integration. The college relies on national and provincial scientific research and teaching platforms such as the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology, Tencent Cloud Artificial Intelligence National Institute of Modern Industry, Guangdong Basic Discipline Research Center for Computing Power Improvement, and Guangming Laboratory to provide a solid guarantee for scientific research and talent training.
The college's talent training model highlights the four-in-one integration of "production, learning, research, and innovation", adopts a school-enterprise dual tutor system, and has in-depth cooperation with well-known companies such as Tencent, Huawei, and Yuntian Lifei. Specialty classes such as Artificial Intelligence (IEEE Honors Class) are led by Mao Junfa, academician and president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who serves as the first honorary class teacher. The admission score of the first class of enrollment in 2024 in Guangdong Province ranks first among the school's physics majors. The school also actively expands cooperation with well-known domestic and foreign companies and universities, and has established close ties with Tencent, Huawei, ZTE, IBM, Microsoft, etc., and has self-developed a unique poultry smart breeding system for Chenghai lion head geese and Guizhou Chishui silky chickens, which is jointly guided by Shenzhen University teachers and corporate mentors.
In terms of scientific research and innovation, the college has built a scientific research system that is "driven by demand, breakthroughs in key issues, and a hundred flowers bloom". It conducts scientific research based on major national needs, encourages free exploration and innovation, and realizes a closed loop of scientific research and industrial transformation. The college has built a basic subject research center and computing power platform, and has advanced equipment such as IBM System z10 mainframe, Shenzhen Super-21C supercomputer, and independently developed Shenzhen University No. 1, 2, and 3 popular high-performance computers, with a total value of more than 100 million yuan, providing strong support for scientific research and innovation.
The School of Artificial Intelligence of Shenzhen University has become a global leader, ranking 47th in the world in the latest US News subject rankings. In the future, the college will rely on the advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to promote talent introduction, technological research and other work, deepen AI industry-university-research cooperation, and create a "reservoir" for AI innovative talents in Shenzhen and even the country and the birthplace of AI original technology. It will provide a key boost for Shenzhen to build a global artificial intelligence pioneer city, and jointly write more "Shenzhen miracles" in the AI era.
