The National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "National Engineering Laboratory") is a national-level science and technology innovation platform jointly established by Shenzhen University, relying on computer science and engineering disciplines, and in collaboration with the State Information Center, Tsinghua University, ZTE, Huawei, Tencent, and other technology companies and research institutions.
The National Engineering Laboratory's core mission and goal is to develop and build a "high-performance big data computing platform." Following the main lines of tackling key big data technologies, developing core big data systems, designing typical big data application cases, demonstrating big data achievements, and incubating big data industries, the National Engineering Laboratory strives to form a systematic big data technology achievement with independent intellectual property rights, a high-end talent team, and a public service platform. It aims to become a leading intellectual support and technical service base for my country's big data innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, contributing technology, talent, and case studies to the realization of my country's big data strategy.
The National Engineering Laboratory plans to establish an Open Research Fund to provide research funding for domestic and international researchers engaged in big data-related fields. The Open Research Fund supports key and general open research projects, with key projects receiving 50,000-100,000 RMB and general projects receiving 30,000-50,000 RMB. The project execution period is from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025. Specific implementation methods will follow the relevant provisions of the "Interim Measures for the Management of the Open Fund of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology (2023)".
I. Funding Areas
The research areas funded by the 2024 National Engineering Laboratory Open Fund include, but are not limited to, the following:
Research Area 1: Fundamental Theories and Underlying Hardware and Software Technologies for Big Data System Computing;
Research Area 2: Key Technologies for Big Data Processing and Analysis;
Research Area 3: Application Research of Big Data Methods and Theories in Health, Industry, Vision, and Unmanned Systems.
II. Eligible Applicants
Researchers outside the National Engineering Laboratory with a doctoral degree or associate professor or higher title are eligible to apply within the scope of funding. Collaboration with researchers from the National Engineering Laboratory is encouraged.
III. Application Procedures and Important Notes
1. Applicants should complete the "Application Form for Open Fund of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology" based on the above research content (electronic version sent to jimmywangheng@szu.edu.cn), and simultaneously send a hard copy by express mail to the address provided in the contact information;
2. The application period for this year's open fund is from November 29th to December 29th, 2023;
3. The National Engineering Laboratory will organize relevant experts to review the submitted applications and determine the funded projects and funding amounts; the funds will be used in accordance with Shenzhen University's financial regulations on an actual reimbursement basis (funds will not be disbursed externally);
4. The projects will commence on January 1st, 2024, with a research period of 2 years. A final summary report is required on time;

6. The list of approved projects will be announced after the review, and the funded applicants (i.e., project leaders) will be notified by email.
