Academic Exchange | Professor Kay Chen Tan, IEEE Fellow and Vice President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and her delegation visited the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data.

On August 27, 2023, Professor Kay Chen Tan, IEEE Fellow, Vice President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Professor Chuan-Kang Ting, Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Computation Intelligence Magazine and Professor at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan; and Assistant Professor Wanyu Lin from Hong Kong Polytechnic University were invited to Shenzhen University's National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology for academic exchange. More than 30 faculty and students from the Engineering Laboratory and the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, including Professors Li Jianqiang, Zhu Zexuan, and Lin Qiuzhen, participated in the exchange.

Professor Zhu Zexuan first accompanied the three guests on a tour of the Engineering Laboratory and introduced its development. Professor Kay Chen Tan was invited to give an academic report entitled "Towards Next-Generation Evolutionary Computation: Some Reflections," introducing the latest progress in evolutionary computing and discussing future research directions and challenges in depth. She also introduced the high-level journal founded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and provided valuable submission advice to the faculty and students present.

Professor Chuan-Kang Ting introduced the academic exchange activities between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and shared his research experience, inspiring and prompting reflection among the attendees. Finally, Dr. Wanyu Lin, Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, presented the latest cutting-edge research findings on graph neural network theory and its practical applications.

The exchange was conducted in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, with novel and informative presentations. Faculty, students, and invited experts actively participated in the discussions and gained valuable insights. All three scholars expressed their anticipation for further research collaborations with the National Engineering Laboratory and encouraged the students present to apply for relevant advanced study programs.
