Research Areas

(1) General Deep Learning Theory

A large-scale language model with billions of parameters; pre-training of language-text cross-modal models; novel network architectures; and feature extraction modules to improve the performance of CNNs and Transformers. Wavelet convolutional layers are proposed to replace downsampling pooling and upsampling modules to solve the problem of high- and low-frequency signal aliasing. Handcrafted features are combined to guide the network's early and rapid convergence. The latest text-image cross-modal generation models and their applications are studied.

(2) Weakly Supervised Object Detection/Semantic and Instance Segmentation

Object detection networks and semantic segmentation networks based on image category labels reduce the requirements of general object detection/segmentation networks for labeled data. Research is conducted on how to utilize large-scale pre-trained models to reduce the network's requirements for training data, while still achieving good performance on zero-sample open data.

(3) Face Recognition/Analysis and Synthesis

Face recognition, expression, age, and other attribute recognition methods and systems based on deep convolutional networks; face editing based on GAN, StyleGAN, and Diffusion Models; text-driven face generation; and prediction of individual personality, depression, and other psychological emotions based on face videos. The developed facial recognition system has been widely used in the Shenzhen High-Tech Fair, the National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week, the Hangzhou G20 Summit, and Xinjiang security.

(4) Intelligent Analysis of Medical Images

Brain MRI image tumor region segmentation, dental implant location prediction from dental CT images, lung nodule recognition from X-ray images using multi-scale convolutional networks, and disease detection from fundus images/retinal OCT images;

B-ultrasound image thyroid nodule segmentation and benign/malignant classification, nasal endoscopy image adenoid hypertrophy detection, and gastrointestinal endoscopy image polyp detection and analysis;

Gastrointestinal tissue pathology whole slide WSI image tumor interpretation, cervical TCT cell pathology whole slide WSI image interpretation.
