Research Interests: (1) Vision-based human gait recognition and analysis; (2) Human image generation and generative models; (3) Perception problems in embodied intelligent systems
Research Experience:
Chao Fan received his PhD in December 2024. During his studies, he mainly used self-supervised learning, large visual models, and generative models to enhance human gait-related tasks, involving applications such as gait recognition, generation, transfer, personalization, anonymization, and medicine. During his doctoral studies, Chao Fan established close collaborative relationships with domain experts from several institutions, including Southern University of Science and Technology, Beijing Normal University, Michigan State University, and Alibaba DAMO Academy. Over the past five years, Chao Fan has published 10 papers in top conferences and journals (CCF-A and ECCV), including 4 as first author (one T-PAMI paper and one CVPR Highlight Paper) and 4 as co-first author. His work has been cited over 1,000 times on Google Scholar (as of March 2025). The code for all of these publications is open-sourced in the OpenGait repository: https://github.com/ShiqiYu/OpenGait. (1) Basic Information: 2-3 Master's students/year, majoring in Computer Technology. Students with backgrounds in Computer Science, Automation, and Statistics are welcome! (2) Mentoring Experience: During my doctoral studies, I assisted my supervisor in mentoring three master's students, who published in GaitEdge@ECCV2022, BigGait@CVPR2024, MultiGait@AAAI2025, and DenoisingGait@CVPR2025 respectively. Fan Chao participated as a co-first author in the stages of idea development, model design, experimental setup, paper writing, and rebuttal.
