Oct 10, 2024

The 2024 "Data Elements ×" Competition, themed "Data Empowerment, Multiplier Effect," is the first national competition focusing on the development and application of data elements, jointly organized by the National Data Administration and relevant departments. The Guangdong division, centered on the industry sectors covered by the "Data Elements × Three-Year Action Plan (2024-2026)," and guided by the national competition guidelines, focuses on practical problems, setting up tracks, developing competition topics, and establishing corresponding evaluation indicators. The Guangdong division features 12 tracks, incorporating unique topics related to the cross-border flow and integrated application of data elements. It aims to select a number of data element development and utilization solutions nationwide that demonstrate significant application results, strong innovation, and a leading effect, further leveraging the multiplier effect of data elements, accelerating the cultivation of new productive forces, empowering high-quality economic and social development, and contributing to building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a data element pioneer zone.

In the "Technological Innovation Track" of the Guangdong Division of the 2024 "Data Elements ×" Competition, 181 teams from universities such as Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), and Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, as well as innovative enterprises and research institutions such as Tencent, ZTE, Huawei, and Pengcheng Laboratory, participated, representing the highest level of data element development and application in Guangdong Province. Professor Zhu Zexuan's team from the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data at Shenzhen University, in collaboration with the Shenzhen BGI Life Science Research Institute and Pengcheng Laboratory, participated with the project "Gene Big Data Compression Storage and Standardization." After fierce competition, they achieved fourth place, winning the second prize in the finals. Congratulations to the winning team! This achievement not only demonstrates the solid accumulation of the National Engineering Laboratory in the fields of big data processing and bioinformatics, but also highlights the importance of interdisciplinary integration.
