Overseas Outstanding Young Scientists Fund
Project Introduction
To further improve the talent support system of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), fully leverage the NSFC's function of attracting and cultivating talent, and attract outstanding overseas young talents to return to China, the NSFC has established the NSFC Outstanding Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) since 2021.
Application Requirements
Applicants must abide by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess sound scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era.
Applicants must be born on or after January 1, 1983.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree.
Research interests should primarily be in natural sciences, engineering technology, etc.
Applicants should generally have obtained a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D institution before April 15, 2023, and have at least 36 consecutive months of work experience; the work experience requirement may be appropriately relaxed for those who obtained their doctoral degree overseas and have outstanding achievements.
Applicants must have achieved research or technological results recognized by peer experts and possess the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in their field.
Applicants must not have returned to China (or come to China) for full-time work, or must have returned to China (or come to China) for work after January 1, 2022. After receiving the funding notification, applicants must resign from their overseas job or be unemployed overseas and return to China (or come to China) for full-time work for no less than 3 years.
**Application Restrictions**
In accordance with the requirements of relevant central government departments regarding the coordination and integration of national science and technology talent programs, each candidate can only undertake one national science and technology talent program at the same level during the support period and cannot apply for programs at a lower level.
**Salary and Benefits**
Selected candidates will be appointed as specially appointed professors at Shenzhen University. Those who meet the requirements will be granted doctoral supervisor positions, with an income of no less than 1 million RMB per year (including contract annual salary and specially appointed position bonuses). Excellent candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Candidates can apply for specially appointed positions under Shenzhen University's "Pengcheng Peacock Plan." Depending on the level of the specially appointed position (A, B, C), annual bonuses will be 600,000 RMB, 360,000 RMB, and 240,000 RMB respectively during the appointment period.
High-level research achievements will be eligible for research awards, in addition to substantial research performance-based income.

Formal faculty position at Shenzhen University, with an annual salary of 400,000+ RMB (including tax). Fundamental research includes: new sampling methods and computational frameworks for big data, machine learning methods and algorithms, statistical learning methods, similarity calculation, approximation calculation, etc. Common key technology innovations include: distributed parallel algorithms, efficient ETL processing, efficient indexing and querying, novel data mining algorithms, visual analytics and presentation, data security and privacy protection, etc.
Health Big Data Research
Medical and health data governance technologies, data security and privacy protection technologies; medical knowledge graph and semantic model construction technologies; medical and health IoT and wearable technologies; trusted learning technologies, interpretable machine learning, and highly robust learning technologies in medical and health scenarios; federated learning and multi-party distributed computing technologies for multiple medical and health centers; multi-omics analysis technologies for disease microorganisms; ethical standards for the application of medical artificial intelligence systems.
Industrial Big Data Research
Time-series signal processing, multimodal data fusion, artificial intelligence algorithms based on deep learning for big data, vision, and control, conducting interdisciplinary research in industrial big data, industrial IoT, intelligent sensors, industrial intelligent robots, and other fields.
Interdisciplinary Big Data Research
This research fosters interdisciplinary research and collaborative innovation in big data science with biology, physics, chemistry, neuroscience, and medicine. Utilizing data mining, deep learning, and machine learning methods and algorithms, combined with technologies such as massively parallel processing, distributed databases, and cloud computing, it addresses cutting-edge interdisciplinary problems and applications, including big data analysis in biological omics, AI-assisted drug design, and brain-like computing.
Visual Big Data Research
This research focuses on the fundamental and applied research of intelligent analysis of image and video data. It utilizes deep learning theory, visual knowledge representation and learning, neural network architectures and module design incorporating classic signal processing theories such as wavelets, weakly supervised object detection and segmentation, facial recognition, attribute recognition (emotions such as facial expression and age), sentiment analysis (depression and personality), face synthesis based on generative adversarial networks and diffusion models, mutual generation and unified representation of multiple modalities (face, text, voice), and intelligent analysis of various medical images.
Application Requirements
Applicants should be under 35 years of age, have obtained their doctoral degree within the past three years, and cannot apply for postdoctoral research at a postdoctoral station in the same first-level discipline as their doctoral degree institution.
Applicants should possess strong research and innovation capabilities and a strong team spirit.
Candidates should possess strong academic ethics and a rigorous scientific attitude, be in good health, and be able to meet the job requirements.
Strong English reading and writing skills are required; applicants with significant research achievements will be given priority.
A background in computer science, information science, mathematics, or data science, with experience in big data theoretical research and industrial practice, is preferred.

The comprehensive annual salary for postdoctoral fellows at Shenzhen University is approximately 300,000-500,000 RMB. Specific details include:
The provincial and municipal governments provide eligible postdoctoral fellows with an annual living allowance of 180,000 RMB, not exceeding 360,000 RMB.
The university provides a comprehensive annual salary of approximately 150,000 RMB and a monthly meal allowance of 350 RMB.

Mao Junfa, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Shenzhen University, serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the laboratory, while Chen Guoliang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serves as the Director. With the core mission and goal of developing and constructing a "high-performance big data computing platform," the laboratory follows a development path encompassing key big data technology breakthroughs, core big data system development, typical big data application case design, big data achievement application demonstration, and big data industry incubation. It has formed a systematic big data technology achievement with independent intellectual property rights, a high-end talent team, and a public service platform, becoming a leading intellectual support and technical service base for my country's big data innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Research Team
The laboratory has established 19 research centers, forming a distinctive and highly capable research team. Currently, it has 230 research and technical support personnel, including over 109 with doctoral degrees or national, provincial, and municipal-level talent qualifications. It comprises several research centers, including the Health Big Data Research Center, the High-Performance Data Computing Systems and Theoretical Research Center, the Big Data Analysis Systems Research Center, the Visual Big Data Research Center, and several co-constructed research centers.
Research Achievements
During its construction period, the laboratory undertook 132 national-level projects, including 15 national key projects. As the lead unit for two projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology's Key R&D Program, it received over 240 million RMB in funding. It has won awards such as the Chinese Association of Automation Science and Technology Progress Award, the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Progress Award.
