To improve the quality of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grant applications in 2023 and enhance the research capabilities of researchers, the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data held a “2023 NSFC Application Seminar” on February 23, 2023, in Conference Room 938 of Zhiteng Building.

This conference invited Academician Chai Tianyou of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Pei Hailong, Vice Dean of the School of Automation Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology, to provide guidance to researchers planning to apply for the 2023 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects. They addressed key points and challenges in the NSFC application process. The meeting was chaired by Li Jianqiang, Executive Director of the National Engineering Laboratory.
Academician Chai systematically introduced the funding background and detailed funding pathways of the NSFC, sharing key points to consider in the NSFC application process from the perspective of a research administrator. Professor Pei Hailong, from the perspective of a review expert, offered guidance and suggestions for the researchers' proposed projects.
The two experts' presentations were detailed and their guidance incisive, greatly benefiting the participants. This conference further enhanced the understanding and awareness of the NSFC among researchers at the National Engineering Laboratory, laying a solid foundation for the 2023 NSFC application process.
