On the morning of July 17th, the 2024 National Excellent Undergraduate Summer Camp of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology at Shenzhen University officially opened. This year's summer camp attracted enthusiastic applications from outstanding students from universities across the country, with 115 outstanding students ultimately selected to gather at Shenzhen University's Canghai Campus for a two-day academic summer camp journey. The opening ceremony was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of Zhiteng Building.

Academician Chen Guoliang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data, and Professor Sun Fuchun of the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Luo Chengwen, Assistant Director of the Laboratory.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Li Jianqiang, Executive Director of the National Engineering Laboratory, delivered a welcome speech, extending a warm welcome on behalf of all the faculty and students of the laboratory to the outstanding college students from all over the country. He expressed his hope that this summer camp would enable the students to learn with enjoyment, acquire skills, and achieve success.

The director of the National Engineering Laboratory and Academician Chen Guoliang's laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited to give a report entitled "The Path to Apprenticeship: How to Be a Graduate Student." Academician Chen shared his decades of experience in teaching, nurturing students, and dedicated to scientific research, offering advice on how to enter a research community and participate in scientific research. He earnestly instructed the students present on how to become qualified researchers. His personal example and unwavering commitment to teaching and nurturing students moved every teacher and student present.

Professor Sun Fuchun from the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University was invited to deliver a cutting-edge scientific report on the theme of "Embodied Large Models and Behavioral Learning." He explained various aspects, including embodied large model technology, behavioral learning, and development trends, broadening the audience's research horizons and prompting deep reflection. Finally, Professor Sun concluded his report with a poem entitled "Ode to Shenzhen University," showcasing the profound humanistic qualities of a leading scientific researcher.

In the afternoon, faculty members from each research center in the laboratory gave detailed presentations on their respective research directions, faculty members, landmark achievements, and training objectives. Following the lectures, eight graduate advisors held a unique "Face-to-Face with Advisors" seminar, where advisors shared their experiences on the theme of "Graduate Student Career Planning." Afterwards, several students actively asked questions, engaging in detailed discussions on topics such as research direction selection, communication with advisors, and graduate training plans.





This year's National Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates will be held over two days, with an additional student achievement showcase on the 18th. The camp features a diverse range of activities, including laboratory visits, expert lectures, student-faculty forums, and student project presentations. The camp aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the laboratories' unique educational characteristics and culture, broaden their horizons, expand their knowledge, and help them develop clearer plans for their future academic careers.
