On September 3, 2024, the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data at Shenzhen University held a grand opening ceremony for its 2024 freshmen in Lecture Hall 2 of Huixing Building. More than 100 new students, like rivers flowing into the sea, gathered at Shenzhen University to embark on a journey together.
At 9:00 AM, the ceremony officially commenced, presided over by Professor Luo Chengwen.
Laboratory Director Li Jianqiang offered his heartfelt greetings to the 2024 freshmen, welcoming and congratulating them. Director Li particularly emphasized the importance of four key abilities for students: learning ability, problem-solving ability, self-regulation ability, and teamwork ability. He encouraged the freshmen to fully utilize the first-class industrial environment resources provided by the university, absorb the innovative energy of Shenzhen, firmly grasp their life's direction and path, and become outstanding young talents forging ahead in the new era, laying a solid foundation for their future.
Teacher representative Peng Xiaogang then spoke, sharing his insights from over twenty years on campus and encouraging the new students to be full of anticipation and hope for the future. He emphasized that an innovative approach towards the unknown and the future should adhere to inheriting the known, exploring the unknown, and creating new knowledge, using the courage and wisdom of original innovation to continuously expand one's own life and the future development of humanity.
Following this, Huang Yijing, a representative of the new graduate students, and Luo Chenhao, a representative of the new undergraduate students, delivered speeches. They expressed their aspirations for the future and their fearlessness in the face of challenges. They wished every student could continuously break through their own limitations, start a new chapter in their lives at Shenzhen University, and live up to their youth by pursuing their dreams.
The ceremony also included the appointment of new student class advisors. Professors Li Jianqiang, Shen Linlin, and Zhu Zexuan presented appointment letters to teachers Huang Changxin, Zhu Tiantian, Shang Ke, and Hong Wenjing, officially appointing them as new student class advisors. They will assist and guide students in their growth and successful transformation through ideological guidance, academic instruction, life guidance, and class building.
Following this, Professor Luo Chengwen gave an overview of the laboratory, providing the new students with a deeper understanding of its research directions and facilities. Professors Huang Changxin from the Health Big Data Research Center, Ji Junkai from the Interdisciplinary Big Data Research Center, Zhuo Wei from the Visual Big Data Research Center, and Pan Yinghui from the Industrial Big Data Research Center then gave detailed presentations to the new students on their respective research centers' research directions, faculty strength, and training objectives, showcasing their research achievements and research teams.
In the following sessions, presentations by graduate student affairs officer Yang Jialin, student affairs officer Ma Bingni, and library staff provided valuable information and resources for the new students, helping them better adapt to university life and academic research.
With the successful conclusion of the opening ceremony, the new students of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data at Shenzhen University have officially embarked on their academic journey. We look forward to the Class of 2024 students being spirited, diligent, and persistent in their pursuit of knowledge on this new learning path.
